For those of you who are not sure which type of fireplace you'd like to add, here is a brief description of the models available.
GAS FIREPLACES
To vent or not to vent – that is the question!
Direct Vent Gas Fireplaces
There are some very good reasons why direct vent gas fireplaces make up the majority of gas fireplace sales these days. Most folks find that they are the most realistic of the gas fireplaces. They also take all their combustion air from outside, so room air quality is not affected. You can get models that throw a moderate amount of heat (enough for a small room), and models that can heat a large area (like a great room, kitchen, dining area combination, for example). And because they are so popular, manufacturers are making them in an incredible amount of styles and designs for different rooms (living room models, kitchen models, bedroom models, etc.), and for a variety of decors (traditional, modern, etc.).
While many folks appreciate the realism of the new ceramic fiber logs and glowing embers in the traditional models, there are new styles with various media: different colored glass, pebbles, rocks, geometric shapes and more. These new styles go into fireplaces that look more like art than they do a traditional fireplace – not for everybody maybe, but in the right home – WOW! There are numerous options available for many of these products like wall controls, remotes, fan kits, and more. Available in Natural Gas or Propane (LP) Gas. Take me to Direct Vent Gas Fireplaces.
Vent-Free Gas Fireplaces
No, you don't get a free vent with these models. Because they burn at an amazing 99.96% efficiency, vent-free gas fireplaces (aka Ventless or Un-vented), do not require venting. (That means they only use room air for combustion.) Though the amount of styles, designs and options are not as extensive as with their direct vent cousins, vent-free fireplace models have come along way in their appearance and styles. They are amazing heaters! Available in Natural Gas or Propane (LP) Gas.

B-Vent Gas Fireplaces
The first gas fireplaces were B-Vent (also called Natural Vent). These products use a B-vent vertical pipe that exhausts the fumes. These fireplaces use room air for combustion and because these units do not have a sealed glass front, their efficiency is limited and they can be a cause of poor air quality. Though we do occasionally sell these products to contractors, Papa's Hearth & Home does not recommend this type of product to homeowners.
WOOD BURNING FIREPLACES
There's just something about a wood burning fire!
Wood Burning Fireplaces
It used to be that if you wanted a wood burning fireplace, you hired a mason (and $10,000.00 or so later – you had one). Not anymore! Manufactured wood burning fireplaces have made amazing improvements in technology. While some are designed to look exactly like a masonry fireplace when finished, others have been designed to heat a room or even a whole home, just like a wood stove! There are also extremely affordable models as well.
And remember, Papa's Hearth and Home offers a huge selection of mantels and facings so you'll get the perfect finish to your perfect fireplace!

ELECTRIC FIREPLACES
For the easiest Fireplaces - just plug me in!
Electric Fireplaces
Grandma's fake wood logs with a light bulb behind them? Not! These "go anywhere" fireplaces have come a long way in this industry. By using some amazing new technology, these fireplaces are looking more and more realistic, and are available in a variety of sizes and styles. There are even some new modern "wall art" models you can get. Most models also come with a 5000btu heater built in.

ETHANOL FIREPLACES
The newest category has some great advantages!
Ethanol Fireplaces
With rising energy prices, air and water pollution, and an increasing awareness of human impacts on the global environment, many people are interested in clean, safe, and environmentally friendly heating options for their homes. Ethanol is one of these – since it is made from plants, it does not release any new carbon dioxide (CO2) into the air. Also, when ethanol is burned its emissions are roughly similar to human breath – small amounts of water vapor and carbon dioxide, with no harmful or toxic substances, so venting is not necessary. These fireplaces can be made portable with small liquid fuel tanks to hold the alcohol, and they produce real flames and real heat, too. A fabulous new product!
